SIOTH® is Integration Objects’ Industrial IT-OT-IoT platform. It combines connectors such as OPC UA, OPC Classic, Modbus, MQTT and databases with core services that collect, process, store and expose industrial data. These components currently run on premises and on Windows environments.
The project aims to transform SIOTH into a cloud-native platform by containerizing its components, orchestrating them with Kubernetes, and deploying them on Azure and at the edge. The goal is an automated, scalable and highly available deployment.
Keywords
Cloud-native, Docker, Kubernetes, Azure, edge computing, Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD, IIoT, .NET/C#, SIOTH®.
Cloud-native capabilities
- Containerized platform services for Linux, Windows, x64 and ARM.
- Kubernetes orchestration with self-healing, auto-scaling and rolling updates.
- Managed Azure deployment using AKS, Container Registry and Key Vault.
- Hybrid edge-to-cloud topology, such as K3s on edge gateways.
- Centralized configuration, secrets, persistent storage and monitoring.
Main topics
- Analyze the SIOTH architecture and component dependencies.
- Design a cloud-native target architecture covering edge, cloud and hybrid deployments.
- Containerize platform services and connectors.
- Provision Azure infrastructure as code and package releases with Helm.
- Automate CI/CD in Azure DevOps.
- Validate availability, scalability and performance.
Deliverables
- Container images, Helm charts and Kubernetes manifests.
- Infrastructure-as-Code templates using Bicep or Terraform for Azure.
- CI/CD pipelines with security scanning and automated deployment.
- Report, architecture guide, deployment guide and test results.
Expected results
- One-click, reproducible deployment of the full platform on cloud or edge.
- High availability, zero-downtime upgrades and on-demand scaling.
- Centralized monitoring and management of distributed SIOTH instances.
