Project overview
- Design an off-road version of the B-Van by optimizing its structure, suspension, and traction for enhanced performance on rough terrains.
- Study vehicle architecture and establish design targets for ground clearance, approach/departure angles, and underbody protection to enable reliable off-road operation.
What you will do
- Perform a structural assessment of the current B-Van chassis and body to identify necessary reinforcements and modifications for off-road loads.
- Define and optimize suspension geometry and components (springs, dampers, anti-roll) for improved wheel travel, articulation and ride comfort on uneven terrain.
- Propose traction and driveline adaptations (tyre selection, differential locking strategies, torque distribution) to maximize off-road capability.
Required expertise & skills
- Understanding of vehicle architecture and design optimization, with ability to model loads and structural behaviour for chassis and body structures.
- Knowledge of chassis and body structure design specifically for off-road applications, including material selection and reinforcement approaches.
- Familiarity with ground clearance considerations, approach/departure angles, underbody protection design, and basic off-road vehicle dynamics.
Department & practical details
- Department: R&D; Number of trainees: 1.
- Expected deliverables: design study report, CAD modifications or concepts, simulation/analysis results, and recommendations for prototype validation.
