Description
Overview
- Department: Production – Cutting; project linked to GS50 project (installation of new machines) requiring layout rearrangement.
- Objective: Implementation of a Kanban system for coils and redesign of storage/layout to adapt to new machine installation and improve material flow.
Main tasks / Responsibilities
- Analyze current coil flow and storage practices to identify bottlenecks and storage constraints.
- Define Kanban requirements and calculate Kanban dimensions (card/kanban sizes, quantities, replenishment rules).
- Design the Kanban rack and updated floor layout using AutoCAD, taking into account ergonomics and space from GS50 machine installation.
- Propose and validate improvement scenarios (layout alternatives, rack configurations, stock levels) and support pilots.
- Support the implementation of the Kanban system on shop floor and participate in validation and adjustment after deployment.
Required skills & tools
- Lean and Kanban methodology knowledge for pull systems and inventory control.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD for layout and rack design drawings.
- Strong Excel skills for calculations, Kanban sizing, and data analysis.
- Industrial Engineering background (Bachelor’s or Master’s student) and familiarity with production/cutting environments.
Deliverables & expected outcomes
- Detailed analysis report of current coil flow and storage including identified issues and improvement opportunities.
- Technical design drawings of the Kanban rack and updated plant layout in AutoCAD.
- Defined Kanban parameters (card sizes, number of kanbans, replenishment rules) and Excel calculation sheets.
- Implementation plan and validation report with recommended scenario(s) and metrics to monitor post-implementation (e.g., stock levels, lead times).
