Description

Overview:

  • Darbuka Knockout is an interactive rhythm experience where players engage in musical duels using Tunisian percussion instruments.
  • Players strike virtual darbukas in sync with visual and audio cues to test precision, timing, and creativity while promoting cultural appreciation.

Core Features & Gameplay Modes:

  • Motion-Tracked Percussion: players use hand-tracking or controllers to hit darbuka surfaces in rhythm with dynamic musical patterns; the system must detect timing accuracy and gesture position.
  • Duel & Cooperative Modes: face off against another player in rhythmic showdowns or perform in sync cooperatively to unlock harmony bonuses and layered musical outcomes.
  • Adaptive Sound System: a real-time sound engine reacts to timing accuracy, layering beats and effects based on performance level to create immediate auditory feedback.
  • Cultural Rhythm Integration: integrates authentic Tunisian drumming patterns and scales, blending traditional rhythmic structures with interactive gameplay.

Student Deliverables / Responsibilities:

  • Implement and refine motion-tracking input (hand-tracking and controller support), including hit detection, latency compensation, and gesture-to-sound mapping.
  • Develop the adaptive sound engine behavior that layers and modifies audio based on timing accuracy and performance metrics.
  • Design and prototype duel and cooperative gameplay flows, scoring systems, and feedback loops that emphasize both competition and collaboration.
  • Integrate authentic Tunisian rhythmic patterns and ensure cultural elements are accurately represented within musical arrangements and UI descriptions.

Technical & Personal Requirements:

  • Experience with game development (real-time engines), audio programming or interactive audio middleware, and input/motion-tracking systems.
  • Familiarity with rhythm-based game mechanics, latency handling for precision timing, and designing immediate audiovisual feedback.
  • Good communication and collaboration skills for working with musicians/cultural consultants and other developers to ensure authenticity and playability.

How to apply:

  • Send your application, CV, and a short portfolio or relevant project links to Contact@tynassit.com.
  • In the email subject line include the project code and title (PFE Application - 06 11 Darbuka Knockout) and describe your relevant experience with rhythm/game audio or motion-tracking systems.
